A merchant website is a website that allows its visitors to order and/or pay for products and/or services.

It differs from the showcase website, or institutional site, whose objective is generally limited to the presentation of a company, its products and/or services.

Sales made by professionals to consumers via a merchant website constitute distance sales contracts subject to compliance with the following Articles L.121-16 of the Consumer Code.

FEVAD (Fédération du e-commerce et de la vente à distance) is responsible for representing professionals in the distance selling sector, including e-commerce, and defending their interests before the authorities.
