Article L 711-1 of the Intellectual Property Code provides:
“The trademark or service mark is a sign capable of graphic representation used to distinguish the goods or services of a natural or legal person.
In particular, the following may constitute such a sign:
- a) Names in all forms such as: words, word combinations, surnames and geographical names, pseudonyms, letters, numbers, acronyms;
- b) Sound signs such as: sounds, musical phrases;
- c) Figurative signs such as: drawings, labels, stamps, selvedges, reliefs, holograms, logos, synthetic images; shapes, in particular those of the product or its packaging or those characterizing a service; arrangements, combinations or shades of colors “.
